Rainer Beetz advises and represents national and international companies in the acquisition, enforcement and challenge of intellectual property rights. A particular focus of his practice is complex patent litigation. As lead counsel, he handles patent infringement and revocation proceedings before the Unified Patent Court (UPC). He also has many years of experience in Austrian and cross-border litigation, in opposition and appeal proceedings before the European Patent Office, as well as in trademark opposition and cancellation proceedings, including related appeal proceedings.

His practice combines extensive litigation experience with a strong technical understanding, particularly in the fields of mechanical engineering and process engineering. He is regularly recognised by leading rankings such as JUVE Patent, IAM Patent 1000 and Managing IP as one of Austria’s leading patent attorneys.

Rainer Beetz lectures on patent law at the Faculty of Law of the University of Vienna and at TU Wien and is a member of the editorial board of the “Österreichische Blätter für gewerblichen Rechtsschutz und Urheberrecht” (ÖBl). For many years, he has also held senior positions in national and international associations in the field of intellectual property.

He studied mechanical engineering and industrial engineering at the Vienna University of Technology and at the Università di Bologna, and holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in intellectual property law from Nottingham Law School.
