UPC Court of Appeal: Request for expedition of the appeal

The defendant filed an application for security for costs. The Court of First Instance dismissed the application. The defendant appeals and requests to expedite the appeal under R 225(e) and R 9.3 RoP and to shorten any deadlines as significant legal costs have been incurred and continue to increase. However, no specific reason was given as to why the Statement of response should be filed before the expiry of the 15-day time period under R.224.2(b) RoP. Therefore, the Court of Appeal sees no reason to shorten the time period for the claimant. The request is also too unspecified to justify the shortening of any future time periods (UPC 22.5.2024, CoA 218/2024).
