Rudolf Griss is a patent attorney at SONN, where he advises clients on all aspects of patent law and acts as an authorized representative before the European and Austrian Patent Offices. The focus of his activities lies in the creation of patent portfolios, in particular in the fields of chemistry, life sciences, medical technology and chemical engineering. He also specializes in opposition and nullity proceedings as well as conducting prior art searches and freedom-to-operate (FTO) analyses.

Rudolf studied chemistry at ETH Zurich and the University of Cambridge and received his Ph.D. in protein engineering from the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL). In addition to publications in scientific journals such as Nature Chemical Biology, Nature Communications and Science, his academic achievements include the Medal of ETH Zurich, the prize for the best doctoral thesis in chemical sciences and engineering at EPFL, the Excellence Scholarship of ETH Zurich and the PhD fellowship of the Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds. After completing his Ph.D. and postdoctoral research, he founded a start-up company in the field of point-of-care diagnostics, which he headed for several years.
